2018
SYNOPSIS
The Spiral Forest accompanies Daniel Steegmann Mangrané’s 2016 solo exhibition held at The Green Parrot and Fundació Antoni Tàpies, in Barcelona. By connecting geometric and abstract forms with natural elements, Steegmann Mangrané intends to reframe the history of abstraction through non-hierarchical and non-human-centric theories of the world, inviting us to re-evaluate our point of view and reshape the traditional division between nature and culture.
This volume, edited by Daniel together with João Laia and Rosa Lleó is a compilation of materials built out of a number of influential texts including: poems by Stela do Patrocínio and republished texts by Maurice Merleau-Ponty, Roger Caillois, Eduardo Viveiros de Castro, and Vilém Flusser. It also includes a conversation between the artist and curator Lauren Cornell, plus sets of images illustrating exhibitions, projects, and works, which ask the reader to build their own understanding of Steegmann Mangrané’s practice and concept of life. Published by Mousse Publishing.
Book block printed in alternating sections of monochrome offset on uncoated paper (Munken Print White), and four-colour offset on coated (Arctic Volume White). Bound as a softcover Ota-bind (lay-flat) on embossed paper (Creator Sand).
